Rules

GOAL

Classic: Be the first to empty your hand. No points are kept; the others are ranked by the cards they have left.

Trust Me: Score the most points. You earn them by going out, by lying without getting caught and by catching liars. Lie points stay secret until the results.

SETUP

The whole deck is dealt. At the start each player removes pairs of the same rank: two go, three keep one, four all go. Removed pairs are public, so you can count how many of each rank are still in play.

A ROUND

The opener plays 1 to 3 cards face down and names a rank. Only the rank can be a lie. Each next player either challenges, plays 1 to 3 more cards claimed as the same rank, or passes.

CHALLENGE

Only the latest play is turned over. If any card is not the named rank, the liar takes the whole pile. If every card is true, the challenger takes it. Whoever did not take the pile opens the next round.

PASSING

Passing plays nothing. The last play can still be challenged until someone plays on top of it. When everyone else has passed, the pile is burned face down and the last player opens. The opener cannot pass.

GOING OUT

When a play empties your hand, the others may still challenge it. If it stands, you are out and the game ends.

TURN TIMER

You have 30 seconds per decision, or 15 on Fast. Out of time as opener plays your lowest card truthfully; as responder it passes.

SCORING (Trust Me)

Going out: +10. Each card left: -1. Each false card that is accepted or burned: +25, kept secret until the end. Correct challenge: +10. Wrongly challenged: +10 for the honest player.
